Stumpy Oak

Ceilidh Band

Welcome to the online home of folk band, Stumpy Oak!

Cambridge based, dancefloor-packing band of professional, experienced ceilidh and barn dance musicians. We play English, Irish and Scottish traditional music for weddings, parties, balls and festivals and don't use a 'pool' of musicians as many other ceilidh bands do.

Stumpy Oak boasts an unusually large sound. Fiery fiddle, accordion and guitar are complimented by guitar sub-octaves (giving a bass guitar sound) and a stompbox (like a bass drum). Options for further instruments include a bodhran and second fiddle. Lighting is included with every booking, adding to the atmosphere. A friendly, patient caller completes the line-up to talk guests through the dance moves prior to/during each dance so that everyone knows what to do and can have fun.

If you're looking for a band to make your special event really special, contact us now. We can even provide a DJ/disco or ceremony music to make your planning far simpler! A video taken from a recent event is included below (2:54 onwards).

"Thank you for all the wonderful music at our wedding… We LOVED the band and the disco music. EVERYONE loved you all. It was a big surprise for my parents, and I shall never forget the expression on my Dad’s face when I came off the dance floor after the first ceilidh dance. He was beaming from ear to ear with the biggest smile… he looked like a big kid. He was so happy and enjoyed you all playing so much. He was almost speechless and just said 'wonderful.. wonderful, wonderful'!"

Sam & Brian, wedding reception

"You really made our party go with a swing and we’ve had lots of feedback about how much fun it was - we now have several more ceilidh fans.. We’ll certainly be recommending you to others - thanks again."
