Braintree Ceilidh Band

Welcome to the website for Braintree ceilidh and barn dance band, Stumpy Oak!

We are a merry group of professional ceilidh musicians with years of experience who perform all over Essex and the neighbouring counties of Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

We play for all types of events including weddings, birthdays, festivals, fundraising gigs, and even funerals. Our music draws upon a rich collection of folk melodies from the British Isles and beyond. A wide selection of English, Irish, Scottish and Celtic traditional tunes are used to get your feet tapping and you can hear what we sound like by visiting our welcome page and clicking on a sound clip of us playing our favourite tunes.

Professional Performances

Our team of talented musicians have appeared at leading folk festivals throughout the country. Two band members have reached the final of the BBC Young Folk Awards, whilst another won the St Albans New Roots competition for young performers. A number of our members have CD releases to their name and have been featured on either BBC Radio 2 or Radio 3.
